- Baseball has its amazing mysteries: sacrifice flies,
- biorhythmic batting slumps, perfect games -- and Orel Hershiser IV.
- Hershiser, at least, can explain himself. The Dodger pitching
- sensation does just that in Out of the Blue, his best-selling
- memoir of the 1988 baseball season. Says he: "Admittedly I have a
- funny name, in a baseball uniform I appear to have no chest, and
- my long arms and legs don't evidence my strength." Success, he
- says, stems in part from the mysteries of faith. "Being a Christian
- is no excuse for mediocrity." The Bible, after all, is a best
- seller too.
