  4.     Baseball has its amazing mysteries: sacrifice flies,
  5. biorhythmic batting slumps, perfect games -- and Orel Hershiser IV.
  6. Hershiser, at least, can explain himself. The Dodger pitching
  7. sensation does just that in Out of the Blue, his best-selling
  8. memoir of the 1988 baseball season. Says he: "Admittedly I have a
  9. funny name, in a baseball uniform I appear to have no chest, and
  10. my long arms and legs don't evidence my strength." Success, he
  11. says, stems in part from the mysteries of faith. "Being a Christian
  12. is no excuse for mediocrity." The Bible, after all, is a best
  13. seller too.
